Important Notice: Impending Changes to School Bus Services for 2026
11 October 2025
Today, we are formally notifying our school community about significant, impending changes to the Ministry of Education school bus service, which are scheduled to take effect from Term 1, 2026.
These changes are the direct result of a recent comprehensive review carried out by the Ministry of Education (MoE) concerning its school transport services across the wider Palmerston North area. The Ministry has based its decision on a re-evaluation of the criteria for eligible students, specifically considering their location and numbers relative to our school and the existing routes. This review is intended to ensure the service aligns with current eligibility rules and population distribution.
Over the past few months, I have been actively involved in this process, attending a series of meetings with the Ministry of Education and other Principals in our region. Following these discussions, I have sent multiple follow-up communications to the Ministry, clearly outlining our deep concerns and detailing the specific reasons I believe these proposed changes will have a substantial negative impact on our school and community. We have strongly advocated for a solution that minimises disruption for our students and families.
We understand that any alteration to daily transport is a major concern for families. To help you understand the full scope of what is planned, we have attached all the official documentation that has been provided to the school by the Ministry of Education. We strongly encourage all families who rely on the service to read and review this material carefully.
The Ministry has informed us that further, more specific details regarding the new bus stops and timetables will be provided to the school, and subsequently shared with you, by the end of October this year.
We will continue to work closely with the MoE to secure and share this final route information as soon as it is made available. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this transition.
